Performance Based Road Maintenance Contracts
Road Maintenance Sustainability Project - Kazakhstan
Technical support for the preparation of a pilot performance-based road maintenance contract (PBRMC) for Kazakhstan on behalf of the Asian Development Bank. The project scope included the windscreen survey of over 1400km of roads and the development of a road testing programme and a PBRMC for Kostanay Oblast.
Motorway Contract Audit and Administration Services Tender
The National Roads Authority (NRA) issued a tender for Motorway Contract Audit and Administration Services to provide management services on over 12 Motorway PPP Contracts.
The RPS AECOM JV appointed McCurdy Associates to provide technical writing services on commission management, cost management, performance management, mobilisation programme, methodology, contract supervision and reporting.
Limerick Tunnel Operation and Maintenance
McCurdy Associates were engaged by the Sisk-Kier Joint Venture to prepare the majority of an outline O&M manual for tender on this major PPP Project.
The tenders related to the management of Operation and Maintenance Contracts for the Limerick Tunnel.
The Scheme comprises approximately 10km of new national road construction, split between dual carriageway and single lane carriageway. The road also includes a tunnel river crossing and two Toll Plazas.
Hong Kong Maintain, Operate and Manage Tenders
McCurdy Associates were engaged by Greater Lucky Hong Kong Limited to provide advice on the technical aspects of two bids worth around €200m for the Maintain, Operate and Manage Contracts for the Tsing Sha and the Tsing Ma Control Areas.
The scope of works included the preparation of the maintenance plans for highway related facilities including roadworks, structures, geotechnics and the development and implementation of the Road Maintenance Management System.
Roads and Highway Pavement Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation of the Castlefarm Access Road
Rehabilitation of the access road to the Dairygold milk processing plant in Mitchelstown, County Cork. The scope of the works included a pavement investigation using FWD and GPR, detailed design, tender award and the supervision of the works on site.
The project included an extension to the Access Road which made use of recycled asphalt for the pavement construction.
Colas PenTack Technical Study
Engaged by Colas to carry out a technical study on PenTack rejuvenating sealant. The study comprised: a desk study on Pentack; a visual condition survey of an 840m-long trial section in Oranmore prior to treatment; observation of the treatment process at Belfast International Airport; overseing the Pentack treatment works on the Oranmore trial site and a visual condition survey of the Oranmore trial site post-treatment.
Low Energy Resurfacing Works
This project involved the reconstruction of a 3km section of the N77 north of Kilkenny City in accordance with NRA IAN 01/11 on Low Energy Pavements.
The recycled pavements used a range of additives including crushed rock fines, cement, bitumen emulsion and foam emulsion.
McCurdy Associates provided construction supervision services and prepared the close out report.
Development of an Analytical Design Procedure for Surface Dressing
Development of a analytical design method for surface dressing on behalf of the NRA, now Transport Infrastructure Ireland.
The project included the preparation of designs in accordance with the new method and site trials on 12 sites located in counties Clare, Cork, Donegal, Kerry, Offaly and Wexford.
NRA DMRB Pavement Asset Repair and Renewal Procedures
ROD/PMS appointed McCurdy Associates to help develop the NRA DMRB standards for pavement asset repair and renewal procedures:
Detailed Visual Inspection of the N25 Lemy Brien to Ballynevoga
Detailed visual inspection of the N25 between Lemybrien to Ballynevoga and the development of recommendations for further pavement investigations and studies in accordance with NRA HD31.
Review of Cracking Treatments for a Motorway Pavement
Review of cracking treatments along M4 Motorway on behalf of the Roadbridge Colas JV.
Roads PPP Projects - Construction Monitoring & Financial Modelling
Kasomeno to Mwenda Toll Road Project - Zambia/Democratic Republic of Congo
Feasibility study in conjunction with Musa Group as sub-consultants to Roughton International on behalf of the Development Bank of Southern Africa.
The project comprises: 181.6km of two-lane highway - 95.6km will be in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and 86km will be in Zambia; 345m cable-stayed bridge over the Luapula river that marks the border between the DRC and Zambia and One Stop Border Posts with tolling facilities on either side of the border.
Transaction Advisory Services for the Operation and Maintenance of the Nairobi Southern Bypass Project
Appointed as tolling and operation and maintenance expert. The scope of the assignment included the engineering analysis of the tollway conversion plan, operation and maintenance plan, detailed implementation programme and inputs to the preparation of transaction documents.
N25 New Ross Bypass PPP - Lenders Technical Advisor
The New Ross Project includes a 900m long extrados landmark structure with two main central spans, 230m in length.
Bam Iridium have appointed Steer Davis Gleave in association with McCurdy Associates to provide lender's technical advisor services.
Construction commenced in Q1 2016 and
SDG/McCurdy Associates will monitor the works monthly during the construction period.
A12 Motorway Spain
McCurdy Associates, in association with Steer Davies Gleave, were appointed by UBS to provide pavement advice for the purchase of the A12 Motorway between Pamplona and Logrono. This involved benchmarking of the unit rates, providing advice on pavement deterioration, reviewing proposed pavement interventions and advising on their adequacy and reviewing maintenance procedures for porous asphalt.
Review of Life Cycle Model for Spanish Motorway Refinancing
McCurdy Associates were appointed to carry out technical due diligence for a purchaser of a road concession in Spain. This included a detailed review of the road management plan and pavement cost model for a section of motorway. The review included an assessment of the pavement treatment types and associated rates, the forecast pavement indicator values and the deterioration models used to make those forecasts.

Technical due diligence for the vendor of a major motorway in the UK in association with Steer Davies Gleave. This included a detailed review of the O&M and pavement life cycle costs.

Technical due diligence for the purchaser of a major Motorway PPP in the UK. Review of the operation and maintenance costs and pavement life cycle costs over the remaining life of the concession.
M11 Enniscorthy Bypass PPP - Lenders Technical Advisor
The Enniscorthy Bypass Project comprises 27.2km of M11 motorway, a 4.1km of N80 dual carriageway, and an 8.0km section of N30 single carriageway. Bam Iridium appointed Steer Davis Gleave in association with McCurdy Associates to provide lender's technical advisor services for the M11 Enniscorthy Bypass from tender stage up to financial close, which was achieved in October 2015.
McCurdy Associates led on the highway design, construction and O&M aspects and provided all local inputs to the project.
Nigeria: Second Niger Crossing
The Second Niger Crossing is a 12km, 3-lane highway incorporating a landmark bridge which was procured under Nigeria's PPP programme.
Roughton International engaged McCurdy Associates to prepare tolling specifications and to provide advice on O&M costs and scope including routine maintenance and life cycle costs.
